This is the second single from the debut album 'No Place Like It' from Ensemble, a celebratory collection of songs about ‘home’ and ‘community’ recorded at the iconic Chem 19 studios in Summer 2019.
Andrew Sinclair wrote the song about his own experience of homelessness, joining Ensemble and moving onto his own home. A collaboration with Scottish musicians Goodnight Louisa (Louise McCraw) and Jamie Scott, it is an emotive, uplifting song about finding courage and a place to belong, accentuated by layers of electronic synths, omnichord, drum machines and stunning vocals by Goodnight Louisa.
Andrew said “The song is about the wall I put up, that voice in my head that talks me out of doing something. The wall can seem like something stopping you but it’s actually an opportunity, you’ve just got to climb and see what’s behind it, hope for a happy ending like I got with Ensemble. I was homeless at the time but I found that place to call home. I feel like it’s a song for people who feel on the outside - a song for the outcasts, by other outcasts”
lyrics
-----------------------------------
I stand out like a silhouette against the moon tonight
Waiting for something to change
In one hand a photograph
A picture of the promise land
Waiting for something to change
God only knows
If there’s anything behind the wall
Stinging eyes in the desert oh
She is so cruel tonight
And I’m waiting for her tide to change
A man emerges from the dust
With a silver handled walking cane
Tells me knows the way
God only knows (God only knows)
If there’s anything behind the wall
Could be anything
Could be anything
Could be anything at all
And it felt so good (felt so good)
To shed my armour off
Could be anything
Could be anything
Could be anything
But I’ll throw it down
Give up my crown
Just to go
Just to go home
This is my battlefield
A one man army
This is my battlefield
And I wont let it yield to that part of me
God only knows (God only knows)
If there’s anything behind the wall
Could be anything
Could be anything
Could be anything at all
And it felt so good
To shed my armour off
Could be anything
Could be anything
Could be anything
But I’ll throw it down
Give up my crown
Just to go
Just to go home
But I will throw it down
Give up my crown
Just to be anything
Anything
Anything
Anything at all
And it felt so good to shed my armour off
And it felt so good to shed my armour off
And it felt so good to shed my armour off
And it felt so good to shed my armour off
I found the place
I've been searching for
Searching for
